Air Nigeria

Air Nigeria, which was formerly known as Nigerian Eagles airline and later changed the name to Virgin Nigeria Airways is now the national flag carrier of Nigeria. The airline is currently engaged in domestic and regional operations in Nigeria. However the new management has decided to open up routes in Europe and Americas. Air Nigeria has recently started code share flights with Delta Airlines to cover routes in USA. The starting routes will be Lagos-Atlanta Georgia and JFK to Abuja. Air Nigeria also has similar agreements with Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways as well. In September 2004, The Virgin group and Nigerian government came together to establish Virgin Nigeria Airways. Virgin Airways’s virgin flight was from Lagos to London Heathrow. The airline soon became one of the largest carriers in Nigeria and was declared Airline of the year by Association of South African Travel Agents also known as ASATA. The airline wanted to expand further and add Abuja as its second base and cover western African routes as well. However due to a dispute with the government involving relocation of operations from international terminal to domestic terminal and certain other factors, the airline suspended its international operations to London Gatwick and Johannesburg. The airline re-branded as Nigeria Eagles Airline i n September 2009. The virgin group all this while held majority shares in the airline. On 2nd of June 2011, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, the current chairman purchased controlling shares of the airline and announced the final rebranding as Air Nigeria. Air Nigeria  is planning on expansion both locally and internationally to regain its lost glory soon.

Air Nigeria Gatwick

Air Nigeria after its re-establishment is planning on re-instating its lost route London Gatwick to Lagos and vice versa. If everything goes as planned, Air Nigeria is set to resume plying on this route by September 1, 2011. This will usher in a new era of convenient traveling pared with affordability for the Nigerian community in the UK.  Air Nigeria is also signing agreements with other airlines to enhance their reach.
